Do Bounce Rates Matter?

The Google Analytics Bounce Rate report is another great way to see the perceived value of your website. If a visitor comes to your website and leaves after seeing just one page then that is considered a “bounce.” If they click on another page then that is not considered a “bounce.”

This is where the spammers and scammers cause a lot of damage if you don’t filter these results. It is important to know the true numbers so you can make sure you are on the right track. In this example there is more than 85% for the traffic repeatedly hitting the website on a single page then bouncing out.

This is produced by the scammers that create ghost hits on your analytics. They don’t actually go into your website but make it appear that they do. You can see this by looking at a data report for time on the site. If the time on the site is 00:00:00 then it is a ghost hit and fake. By filtering out all the ghost hits you can bring that bounce rate to zero. Once you do that you will see the true numbers and can now make better decisions.
